To Whom It May Concern:
I have Dish Network for my satellite service and also have an outdoor antenna to pick up our local HD channels. ABC, CBS, FOX all come in crystal clear when watching HD programming. However, NBC HD on channel 15-1 never comes in. I keep getting a 0% reading on that channel and that the signal is lost. Nobody can seem to answer why this is happening only with my NBC HD channel. Is there anyone that can help me figure out why this is happening with NBC? It is very discouraging especially with the Olympics coming soon in HD. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. Thank you

I am no expert with over-the-air HD. However, I think I can explain your reception problems with NBC. ABC, CBS, and Fox are all brodcast from the same HD tower. NBC is broadcast from a different tower that is several miles away. I'm guessing that your antenna is pointing directly at the ABC, CBS, FOX tower and that is why you can't receive NBC. You might want to try and turn your antenna towards NBC. Of course, this might mean you will not be able to receive the other channels. Check out the picture of the tower at the fox47 website. It gives a list of channels that are broadcast from that tower.
You might want to try an differnt antenna that can't pick up signals from different directions.

First of all WMTV on digital channel 19 is easily receivable in your area, especially if you are currently receiving other stations. I am another 30 miles northeast of Cottage Grove and I receive good signal. Make sure your receiver is tuned into channel 19. Do you receive PBS-HD? If so, their signal might be interfering with it. Are you currently using any amplifiers? (you could try with/without one). But, I believe just a little tweaking of the antenna would work (hopefully it isn’t too hard to move around or get at).

What do you mean when you say WMTV (I am assuming is NBC) is on digiatal channel 19?? It has always been on local channel 15 for me, and the HD channel has always been on 15-01. When I try to dial in channel 19 it does not take me anywhere, it ends up on the next closest channel. Any suggestions? How do I tune in my receiver to channel 19? I do not receive PBS-HD either. Please let me know, and if this doesn't work I guess I will just have to try and get a local satellite company out here I guess to look at my antenna. It's weird because I use to get it and now I don't!

Try rescanning for all OTA stations. All the digital tuners I've seen will scan all the stations in automatically if you start the scan. WMTV and WBUW are on one tower at WMTV's property and all the others are on a single different candelabra tower west of the West Town mall area. You should be able to get WHA, which is on digital channel 20 if your antenna is aimed at the candelabra. WMTV is on digital channel 19 but plans to switch to digital channel 15. They also broadcast a station ID number that can be tuned in on digital tuners. My tuner will tune in WMTV if I enter 15 or 19. Your tuner may be different.

I live in De Forest and my OTA NBC HD signal strength is 90%, yet it is choppy. FOX and ABC are around 80 and 86% and both come in nice and clear. CBS and PBS are both great in in the mid 90's for strength. Is there any reason that NBC is choppy other than because of the signal? I can't seem to figure out why it won't come in when all the other channels do. I have tried aiming my antenna in other directions, but it doesn't help. Some times there is no sound with NBC and then the picture isn't choppy. Ideas?

Choppy means what? Pixelization and breakup?
Just a guess - try rescanning all the channels. Maybe it will lock in better...

Just so you know on friday & saturday night NBC had nationwide issues with it's HD signal. This is an existing issue that has to do with the fact that NBC uses Ku band which can be affected by weather. Apparently Analog is not affected, because they have a backup signal if the primary is experiencing issues. There is a whole lot more detail here

Well, the picture is very clear, but it chops (skips frames) and is not a smooth stream.
It does this everynight and not just Friday and Saturday. If the sound isn't coming though, then the picture is is smooth and looks great. Once the sound signal is present it is choppy again.
I have an HTPC with a Kworld ATSC HDTV tuner card and it works great paired with the Terk TV55 antenna. All channels have good signal (with Fox the lowest at 70-75%), but NBC just doesn't play nice.

Hi, Tom from channel 15 here, just re-established my account on this forum. I have a similar problem at home (although the picture and sound go away together). I borrowed some test gear from the station and have confirmed that I have some local interference somewhere in my neighborhood. I can see low-level garbage on analog channels 3, 15, and 21...and the worst of it is on 19, right on top of our digital channel. It comes and goes without a pattern.
In the past we've seen some low-grade amplified antennas radiate garbage in their vicinity, causing herringbone patterns in the neighbors' analog video on certain channels. Now, in the digital realm, if there's interference, the digital receiver just gives up with no clue as to why. It's frustrating to us on this end.
I still have to hunt down my source...then the neighborly diplomacy starts...
