It seems NBC15's digital signal as upgraded to 155kW.  For the past few days i've gotten 45%-60% signal strength, up from my no signal.  Although tonight im getting some audio problems.  It's fading in and out a bit and sounds like its coming out of a can.

Nope, we're still at 56 kW.  In fact we're down just a little due to a power supply problem.  The digital "signal strength" meters really show error rates rather than signal strength.  We've been there all along, but when the reception improves slightly and the errors go down, the number jumps way up from zero.

The audio is due to a problem with our NBC receiver which will be fixed in a few weeks.

Does anyone know the timeline on increased strength of WMTV-DT or other improvements to the signal? NBC has always been a marginal signal for me. I understand that NBC is also going to move their digital to a higher location on the tower.

I live downtown and have a roof antenna. All of the signals from the other tower (Fox, PBS, ABC) are full strength. But, NBC and WB has a very weak signal, despite being on a tower that is closer to me.

I am kind of in limbo right now. I have no analog receivers in the house. Some of the digital signals are marginal. I was expecting the transition to improve reception of digital. But, since the transition is delayed, should I spend money on signal boosters and a better antenna?

I see that CBS and ABC are planning the transition on Feb. 17 anyway. What should I do about the weak NBC signal?

Any suggestions?

I am up in adams county and with the outdoor tower antenna I get 15 98% of the time.  I also get NBC 13 from Eau Claire most the time also.

If you can keep adjusting and trying an amp that might be your best solution, being close to the tower and far away from other markets leaves you with little options.  If 15 analog turns off before 19 digital gets any better, some might be NBC-less this spring.  Other options are WREX in Rockford, WTMJ4 (analog until June / digital), and WEAU 13 digital.

Cable and Satellite are options...  nbc does provide their signal on Ku satellite, so only the cost of dish / receiver, or dish offers locals only for 10 dollars a month which is cheaper if you only need it for 4 months.
